Barth Bite for Sunday December 27, 2015

Four days ago , in my ongoing quest to read all fourteen volumes Karl Barth’s Church Dogmatics, I began Volume III.1, The Doctrine of Creation.  Here is a representative statement I read today on page 45:
“The Christian doctrine of creation, according to which the Creator and Deliverer are one and the same, teaches that I do not first exist and then deal with this history from my own particular standpoint, but that my own standpoint, my existence, has been given to me by the One who in his history has already dealt with me, so that even as I exist I find myself at the centre of this history. I always come from God the Creator when I am confronted by God the Deliverer.”
